Worship Service – January 9, 2022
Join us Sunday mornings for worship in person at 10:00 am; all are welcome.
Session requires masks be worn for all indoor church activities (worship, M in M, Sunday School, etc) regardless of vaccination status. Thank you for your cooperation, and for your care for our community, as we continue to deal with this pandemic. For the immediate future we will not have congregational singing indoors. Online worship is here to stay for the many reasons you may join us online.

Children’s Sunday School classes meet 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. There will be a PreK – 2nd grade class and a 3rd-5th grade class. We will bring the children back to the sanctuary for the Children’s sermon at 10:15 and then the children can sit with their parents during the rest of the service.
A new opportunity for adult Christian Education will begin Sunday, January 16, following worship. It will be a weekly series of videos, followed by a discussion facilitated by Joanne Boyd. The video series is produced and hosted by Emmanuel Acho who is an author, a Fox Sports Analyst and television personality and a former NFL linebacker. He holds a master’s degree in Sports Psychology from the University of Texas. The series is called “Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man” and is described as “a safe place to have the uncomfortable conversations about race that many White people have never been able to have”. The first video is about 10 minutes long, and serves as an introduction for the series, but also raises a number of hot-button topics that will lend themselves to deeper discussion. We will plan to watch the video together on Sunday, but the link is included here if you would like to view it ahead of time. The class will begin at 11:00 am, and you can join in person or by Zoom; the Zoom link will be sent out with the worship notes later this week. The zoom link for the class is separate from the worship link, so if you are viewing worship on Zoom, and wish to participate in the class, you will need to “leave” worship to “join” the class. Any questions can be directed to Denise Lewis.

The Community Service team once again invites you to join us in collecting cans of soup for “Souper Bowl” Sunday. The big event is Sunday February 13. We will be collecting soup on January 30, February 6 and Feb 13 to be donated to our local food shelf. You are invited to participate in a bracket tournament – one entry per can of soup. There will be prizes! Stay tuned for more details!
From Community Service: During the winter months, the donations to the Little Free Food Pantry need to be modified to tolerate the extreme cold temperatures we can see here. Please review the attached list of items for what to consider donating; ideal items are dried and in bags, like dried beans, rice, oatmeal, cereal, etc. And remember the motto of the Little Free Food Pantry movement: Take what you need, leave what you can.
Spirit of Life is working to be sustainable through recycling. By introducing more recycling collocated at the location of most trash cans, we can significantly reduce the amount of waste being sent to the landfill while showcasing that reducing waste can be easy. Help us to celebrate sustainability while enjoying the event. Clean plastics, tin/metal and paper should go into the recycling bins and everything else should go into the trash. Thank you! Please see Pastor Rob, any Elder or member of the staff with questions.
Volunteers Needed:
…We need one person each Sunday to serve as a Greeter and one person each Sunday to serve as an Usher for Sunday worship. We need two volunteers for each week. Please let Becky Brandt know what dates you are available to help and she will build a calendar. Thank you!
