Newsletter – December 14, 2021

Join us this Sunday, December 19, morning at 10:00 am for our Kids Christmas Pageant (under the direction of Trista Hanson) and the Adult Music program (under the direction of Martha Davis).
In addition, we will give in The Christmas Joy Offering. This has been a cherished Presbyterian tradition since the 1930s. The offering provides critical financial assistance to individuals and families who have dedicated their lives to the Church. It also supports leadership development training and education for students attending Presbyterian-related schools and colleges equipping communities of color. Thank you for your support of the Christmas Joy Offering!

Session requires masks be worn for all indoor church activities (worship, M in M, Sunday School, etc) regardless of vaccination status. Thank you for your cooperation, and for your care for our community, as we continue to deal with this pandemic. For the immediate future we will not have congregational singing indoors.

Online worship is here to stay for the many reasons you may join us online.

South of the River Crop Walk is Sunday, October 10

Spirit of Life Presbyterian Church will host the 9th annual South of the River CROP Hunger Walk on Sunday, October 10! Registration starts at 1:30 p.m., and the Walk starts at 2:00 pm. CROP Hunger walks are locally organized events under the sponsorship of Church World Service to raise awareness about global and local hunger. Seventy-five percent of funds raised support CWS in their global and US based efforts for hunger relief, disaster assistance, and development. Twenty-five percent of the funds we raise will support Second Harvest Heartland, a food bank that supplies all of our local food shelves. We are doing good work and you can be a part of it! Here are the ways you can help:
Follow the link below to join the Spirit of Life team, or donate to the team.
Contact the church office at spirit@spiritoflifeav.org if you would like to volunteer to assist on Walk day; we are looking for 2 or 3 people to help with check-in and registration.
Bring non-perishable food items to the Walk, that will be delivered to the Rosemount Family Resource Center food shelf.
Order a home-made, frozen take-and-bake Swedish apple pie! Some of you have purchased these pies in the past and know how good they are! They are $10 each and can be pre-ordered, with or without nuts. Contact the church office to place your order; deadline Sept. 24.
If you prefer to donate to the team, or pay for your pie with a check, please make it out to Spirit of Life, with “CROP Walk” on the memo line.

New signage coming soon

“Monumental” changes are going to occur soon at Spirit of Life Presbyterian Church! Our church’s road sign on the corner of Pilot Knob Road and 144th Street is going to be replaced with a new sign in the coming weeks. It will be easier to read and include the ability to display electronic messaging. We’re excited about this enhancement to our church property – watch for more changes coming soon!

Little Free Pantry open for use

The Little Free Library in front of Spirit of Life Presbyterian Church has been converted to a Little Free Pantry. It is stocked with items than can withstand the cold and be added to a meal, such as small packages of dried soup, cereal, rice, dried beans, nuts, etc. (please, no cans, bottles and perishable items).

In these stressful times, the Little Free Pantry is for our neighbors as well as our church. The theme is “take what you need, add what you can.” Donations are appreciated, but additional food items much fit into the pantry. Nothing can be left outside on the ground or in the church building. If your items don’t fit into the pantry, please bring them back another time. Church members will monitor and stock the Little Free Pantry as needed.

If you have questions, please contact our church office at 952-423-2212. Spirit of Life Presbyterian Church is located at 14401 Pilot Knob Road in Apple Valley. For more information about the Little Free Pantry movement, please check out www.littlefreepantry.org.

Support our local food shelf

Spirit of Life Presbyterian Church is once again supporting the Rosemount Family Resource Center with donations of fresh produce from our gardens. If you’d like to donate NON-PERISHABLE food items, please drop your items off at church on Saturday, August 1st, from 10 am – 12 noon. A church volunteer will be available to accept your donation. Our address is 14401 Pilot Knob Road in Apple Valley.

If you have perishable items that you’d like to donate, we encourage you to deliver them directly to the Rosemount Family Resource Center, 14521 Cimarron Avenue West, Rosemount. For more information, see their website: https://360communities.org.

Thank you for supporting the needs of our local community!
